Things Required in an Adventure Trip
Yesterday (29/9/2012) was the most memorable day of my
college life. What a fun we all had. But, someone rightly said that ‘man’
learns from his mistakes and ‘Experience’. So, from the experience of the
adventure trip to Garbhanga Reserve Forest [25°57'56"N
91°42'11"E] – Guwahati Assam INDIA I got the following things to
keep in mind.
- Group: Rule #1 – Be in group, don’t allow anyone to go far away from the group, and make sure that none is left behind. Encourage people walking slowly to walk together in case of trekking.
- Water: At least 2-3 Litres per person, or best if you could arrange a large container of water if you are taking a vehicle along with food too. [Like we did]
- Taste, Touch, Smell: Rule #2 – Do not pick up random stuff - like I picked up a small piece of hollow bamboo piece which was full of large Red ants. It might have been worst. So be careful.
- Do not try to touch/smell colourful flower-like on the plants, they might be poisonous. And don’t even think to taste them ever.
- Shoes – A Must
- Track-pants – This will keep your lets safe from scratches from the plants and thorny bushes in Trekking.
- Cap – To protect from the sun
- Sunglasses (Minimum UV protection) – Walking long distances in the sun might affect your eyes. Buy a good pair of sunglasses if you haven’t till now.
- Mosquito/Insect Repellent Cream: Thins might be helpful and protect your skin.
- Sunscreen Cream (SPF >15 preferred) – Again this one to protect the skin from getting tanned.
- Knife (or Swiz Knife)
- Matchstick/ Lighter – This one to light the bonfire. [During Winters only]
- Bag Containing – Extra Tee, Extra Shorts/Track pants, A Napkin, A large towel in case you plan to drench in a river/pond.
- Glucose – At least (¼ X Total Number of people in the group) Kg. That is a group of 26 should have minimum 6.5/7 Kg. This will re-hydrate the body with water and boost your energy level.
- Newspapers – This will help you to clean stuff after you have breakfast/lunch on the trip. And as well as help to substitute a mattress in case you did not take one along.
- Mattress – This will be needed in case you are tired and the group decides to lie down for a while in shade.
- Extra Money – In case you run out of some stuff in long camp, you should be able to go to nearby town to buy something or make a call.
- Satellite Phone – Only needed in case the location of the Trekking is extremely remote and you can afford to get one. [Make a Google search to find out if there are companies to offer such service in your country]
- Tell People – DO NOT FORGET to tell your family and friends where you will be going and for how long. This will help them to track you if you are in trouble. This is after I watched 127 Hours. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1542344/
I hope the list helps all who are planning an adventure trip in some forest reserve.
