Remembering Jiji

Image
Milk Memories  doodh rozana why milk: lots of nutrition, and for unprivileged a glass of milk is equivalent to a full meal. also, folks in the rural hinterland who have buffaloes and cows as part of their livestock have a good amount of consumption of milk. and the classic fact that since their forefathers never got to consume this, we should have it if we today can afford some. that's how jiji (my daadi / grandmother) used to say.  whenever i was visiting her, she made sure that ,i had, not just one glass, but a jug full milk in the morning and evening.  whenever I called her, she never forgot to ask me about my milk consumption. while i was in Northeast India (where fresh milk was not widely available) during undergrad, she was worried initially. but later relieved when i told her that i could get amul's tetrapak, though little expensive than the usual dairy price there. "don't be a miser beta, milk is really good. have at least two glasses eve

Poem - Alag - the different

Image
Alag  This one narrates as to how in this world we all may be different, but we must accept that we are not alone. Everyone is fighting their own battles, we must, therefore, draw positivity from this and go-ahead for the next punch!

A Conversation with the Indian Rail Minister

Image
25th Feb' 2016, Thursday The budget session started on 23rd Feb, and each day has been every interesting since then. Some key highlights so far: 1. Mrs. Smriti Irani , Ministry of Human Resource Development (~ Education Minister) has made a terrific speech, or should I put it the other way... I have always considered her to be a good orator and she just proved it again. If someone is into politics, one has to be a master of good command over speech. Why you may ask, it helps you not only get you votes, but also through the power words, you are able to justify your action each time the parliament is in session. In the following video, she takes good 40-45 minutes to express what she has been going through for the past couple of months, and clarifies, in details, what has been going on in the universities across the country w.r.t student suicide at Hyderabad and then the JNU issue. But, this reminds me that she has been into acting, where she played a typical Indian Bahu

How to Detect a Lie

Image
There are theories and practical experimentation that has been performed as a part of evolution of science & psychology to give various arguments and reasons of humans lying. But is saying the truth always is safest ? That's something you must ponder over. It starts from the very beginning when we were small kids. As kids, we are part of learning by doing or seeing someone do that we explore other parts of human behavior – which is to hide the reality and project a disguised and fake picture/story to others. Since most of our interactions are with siblings and parents at home or friends at school, we experiment these with them. My father has this out-of-the-world way to detect if any of my brother or I was lying. He takes his fingers and holds our ears such that the fingers touch the outer edges of the ears. See the image for illustration. About this method, he believed that when a person is lying, there are changes in temperature of our body. Since

The Generation Gap - It Still Exists

Image
Let them Fly :) “Back in our days”,( “ Humare Zamane main …”) , I am sure we all have heard our parents reciting their stories about their hardships in life, be it moving out of villages to small cities, with just about Rs 10 in their pocket, to either carry on with high school or start a venture of their own. We are either bewildered, astonished or are in awe by their heart-touching tale & with each emotion we probably get to take something back. Someone once said that each generation has its own set of struggles and one needs to find out and settle them up as soon as possible. Anyways, the generation gap that we experience is now new; it’s been faced for generations together. This phenomenon might not have been observed earlier, but from two to three generations, it’s become part of the research & academic work i.e since the 1960s. Generation gap can simply be understood as the difference in the set of norms, thinking, and belief that persists in two gener

पहेचान - A Poem

 Pahechan ( पहेचान ) Translated : Identity Been keeping busy these days.  I haven't touched this part of me for a really long time, will take a while to get into that mode, get the words right and improve and enhance my vocabulary with time. Here is a small stint at Poetry, I usually start by a though and note it down and gradually build it up on the theme. Though, this is version -1 where major portion (line 5 - line 12) is by a Friend ,   Version -2 will be my perspective of the thought, till then enjoy this one.  Do leave your comments below, ।
